Knitters are Good People

I am a big, brave girl. Tonight I went to my very first Stitch 'n Bitch group . . . all by myself . . . without knowing anyone. I was nervous and sat in the car for a few extra minutes before I went in. I even thought, nah . . . I'll just go another time. Oh look - a Target. I'll go to Target. Then I got a grip and realized that knitters had to be good people and that they wouldn't roll their eyes and shrug their shoulders when I approached them. I was right. Knitters are good people. Everyone was friendly and they made me feel welcome. Lots of fun conversation and oohs and ahhs over what everyone was knitting. Such beautiful work. Sweaters, dishcloths, knitting boards, and drop spindles. I was so impressed. To any of the new friends who may visit this blog (like Kelly, Anne and Erin, whose blogs I visited tonight), I'll look forward to future meet-ups. Hopefully, I'll become a Thursday night regular.

Here's the big square of turquoise and green. I completed 2 miters again today - one at home and one at Stitch 'n Bitch. As of this moment, I have 5 big squares (although only one is sewn together) and 2 additional miters done. That's 22 out of 80 (?!) miters done . . . 58 (?!) to go. I'd need 80 miters for a twin size blanket, so I'd probably need about 120 for my queen size bed. Who knows . . . this might end up as a baby blanket. I'm loving this project, but there are another bajillion projects I want to knit. Today I ordered the pattern for Elizabeth Zimmermann's Baby Surprise Jacket that I saw on the Yarn Harlot's blog yesterday. I have to knit this. I've knit so many baby things lately, and I'm surrounded by babies, so I have to knit this. Can't wait to get the pattern. I also ordered the adult version. It looks easier - big and boxy - so I can probably get it to fit me. I so stink at gauge and making things fit. Maybe I can get this one right. I'll start with the baby jacket first - and then I'll find the appropriate baby to fit it. I think that's my best approach. Cheater.

Have to force myself to got to bed now. I'm getting myself in to my summer sleep cycle where I'm staying up later and later every night, and sleeping later and later every day. Hate this. Hate sleeping the day away. M. is worse, though. He slept until 4:30 PM yesterday. I woke him up before I left for an appt. with one of my doctors (my port comes out next Friday! Woohoo!) and just rolled over. Emmie was curled up in his room, too. When I came home hours later, they were both still in the same spots. The cat is just as much as slug as the teenager. I'm afraid I'll become just like them. To bed for me.

Yay! I found your blog! It was so lovely meeting you last night, and I look forward to seeing you in future weeks! I'll let you know if I am planning to go next week on Wed. if you want to be adventurous together! Hey, if you need guidance with that EZ baby sweater, the WEBS podcast just got done with a Knit Along for it. Probably it is in the spring episodes. Your miters are adorable and will make an *excellent* blanket! I love the colors.

Thanks, Kelly. I downloaded the podcast from WEBS. I appreciate the tip. I'd be happy to go to the meet-up on Wed. if you're going to go. Let me know. Thanks for your kind words about my miters. I'm having fun with them.

So glad you came to S&B last week! I was nervous my first meeting, too, but there are a lot of really great people there. I really look forward to it every Thursday, and when I had to miss two Thursdays in a row (for work), I was really bent out of shape about it.

I've enjoyed checking out your blog, too, and I've added it to my RSS list. I see you checked mine out. I need to do another post, especially now that I've made some progress on the sweater (finished the lace trim for both cuffs over the weekend).

Hope to see you this Thursday. :-)
